PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
08/11-06/12 - IT SYSTEMS ANALYST - Poudre Valley Health
System, Fort Collins, CO
Provided clinical application support to personnel at Poudre
Valley Hospital and Medical Center of the Rockies resulting in improved
patient care. Applications supported were Philips IntelliVue and EWS
cardiac monitoring, ScottCare Advantage and VersaCare Cardiac and Pulmonary
monitoring, XLTEK EEG monitoring, Data Innovations (DI) Instrument Manager
middleware, Wyndgate Eldorado Donor and DonorDoc blood bank software,
Philips Resperonics Alice5 Diagnostic Sleep System, and KayPentax Visi-PitchIV
Speech Rehabilitation software.
Support included, among others, project management; installing,
configuring, and maintaining software; trouble shooting and fixing problems;
creating Instrument Manager rules for lab specimens; and configuring
interfaces between the lab analyzers, DI, and Meditech.
Created Windows PowerShell scripts to create shortcuts, manipulate
files and folders, and other administrative tasks.
Used remote access tools including VMWare, Remote Desktop Connection,
and VNCViewer.
03/09-08/11 - SENIOR SOFTWARE ENGINEER - LinSu Custom
Solutions, Fort Collins, CO
Developed methods to pull data from Electronic Medical Records
(EMRs), validate and map the data, and then load the data in a centralized
database. Created Java Windows GUI application and batch jobs for ETL
of data.
Created and modified web sites.
08/98-08/08 - SOFTWARE DEVELOPER SENIOR - University of Michigan Hospitals
and Health Centers, Ann Arbor, MI (Medical Center Information Technology
Department)
Created new Java application that performed ETL of medical documents
for U of M's CareWeb portal from Central Transcription Service (CTS)
to Clinical Data Repository (CDR). This was accomplished by connecting
with Oracle databases using the JDBC thin driver. This application delivers
the data in real-time and replaced a process that took up to 6 to 12
hours. Physicians can now retrieve their documents in a timely manner
implementing better patient care and potentially saving patient's lives.
Was involved in working closely with the CTS team as the CDR
interface process was successfully migrated from a very old server to
a new Linux server. This project was particularly challenging because
the program was so old and much of the code was no longer available
or completely understood. Experience and excellent analytical skills
were critical to the success of this migration.
Received a "You're Super" award for "the number
of times that you've provided prompt, capable, and thoughtful analysis
and programming support for CareWeb and MIS functions. You are an invaluable
partner for the business areas that rely on CDR support, and your efforts
contribute to patient care safety and quality."
Created significant changes and improvements to the Michigan
Care Improvement Registry immunization reports sent to the State of
Michigan. Demonstrated leadership for the CDR team when meeting with
other participating teams, created clear documentation of the issues
and the technical changes, and validated the approach and content with
the key teams. This work was very detailed, and highly integrated with
CareWeb, which created complexity in making the desired changes.
Wrote clear documentation of applications which all the CDR on-call
members benefited from. Always looked for ways to improve the monitoring
of processes and making the support easier for others to do. The team
benefited from this excellent work which was of high quality, carefully
tested, and deployed smoothly in the supported areas.
Took the initiative to assist others and was seen as a respected
leader on the CDR team and with customers. Was extremely attentive to
customer needs and found new ways to optimize the efficiency and quality
of work and challenged others to do the same.
Created various data loaders (including ICD9 and CPT4 procedure
and ICD9 diagnosis codes) and a variety of Oracle database table updaters
which kept these data current.
Was adept at using the UNIX system tools; assisted team members
with UNIX difficulties; created UNIX tools (Korn shell, Perl, and nawk
scripts) for use by team members which simplified and expedited work.
Acted as a UNIX reference person for team members thus helping productivity.
Wrote, maintained, enhanced, and supported SQL queries, PL/SQL
procedures, functions, packages, triggers, and Java stored procedures
used to validate patient demographic data which facilitated patient
safety.
